Sodalite is a deep blue gemstone with a hardness of 5.5 to 6.  It's name is derived from it's sodium content.  The most important deposit is in Bahia, Brazil -- but it is also found in Canada, Namibia, India and the USA.

Mystic Lore: Intuitive sources say Sodalite can stimulate the "third eye" at the front of the brain, enhancing the visionary state.  It is said to bring on the inner journey of self-discovery and , ultimately, enlightenment.  It is also believed to facilitate access to memories of past lives and to bring wisdom.
